BIO
Barbara Scott, a resident of Hampton, Georgia for over 28 years, has been taking photographs since she was a teenager. She is experienced in journalistic photography, darkroom, wedding photography, and her greatest love, nature photography.
Her training and education are varied, from classes taken at Gordon College, to online classes. She shoots both 35mm film and digital. "My favorite camera was the Pentex K1000, a totally manual camera that taught me more about camera settings then most of the lessons I've had. Now I shoot with the new Canon Xsi, as well as the Canon Rebel, a 35 mm camera." She has taken many online photo course, and recently graduated from the New York Institute of Photography. She believes that you can never learn enough, especially in the fast changing medium of Photography.
“I've worked as a staff photographer at a local newspaper, and learned how to run a darkroom. I've joined organizations such as Professional Photographers of America (2003), Photographic Society of America (2002, 2010), and McDonough Arts Council to name a few. I've shot weddings, family events, and news events, but nothing seems to satisfy me as capturing nature. There are special times when the world seems to put forth a great moment of beauty and inspiration. Once in a while, I'm privileged to witness this event and capture it on film. Occasionally, the results obtained are worthy of sharing with others. Too often in our busy lives we forget to "look and feel" our surroundings. After many years of photography, I've decided to focus on nature & still shots. When you see my nature PORTRAITS, I hope you gain a sense of the moment in time when the photograph was taken.”
The past few years Barbara has enjoyed participating in Fine Arts shows, including Art at the Depot in Hampton, the annual Arty Gras art show in McDonough, Fayetteville Fine Arts Festival, and other festivals such as Conyers Cherry Blossom Festival, Barnesville Buggy Days, and Hampton Bear Creek Festival.
In addition to photography, she was the editor and publisher of SonBurst News, a Christian publication (www.sonburstnews.com). Barbara and her husband, Gary, have been married for over 20 years, and are parents to 3 sons and a daughter. She is active in both church and community. She plays clarinet in the church orchestra (www.griffinfirst.org) and in a community band (Peachtree Wind Ensemble www.peachwind.org), teaches 3rd grade outreach Sunday School, enjoys reading, sewing, paper crafting and sight seeing with her camera. There are always pets in the house, usually adopted from a shelter. Current furry residents include a Bob-tailed cat named Pixel, and a very large (rescued) dog named SaraBeth, and a spoiled Maltese named Meko.
